Mission Statement

The Delaware County District Library serves as the public information provider for our community, using traditional and innovative technology to encourage curiosity, free inquiry, and lifelong learning in a friendly environment.

Vision Statement

The Delaware County District Library (DCDL) and its branches are vibrant centers of activity for residents and visitors in Delaware County. DCDL provides an inviting environment that encourages reading, learning, community discussion, and supports lifelong discovery. We are proud to be recognized for engaging minds, expanding opportunities, and improving the quality of life for Delaware County residents.

Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Library. They set Library policy, hire and supervise the Director and Fiscal Officer, approve the Library’s budget and financial practices, and create the Library’s strategic plans. Four board members are appointed by Delaware County Commissioners while the other three board seats come from Court of Common Pleas appointments.

All meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month starting at 5:00 PM and are open to the public. Meetings will take place in a Delaware County District Library locations or online. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of DCDL serves in an advisory capacity to help create a welcoming and safe environment in the library for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, language, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, ability or disability, and socioeconomic status. They advise the library in five main areas:

  1. Programs and Services – Offering library programs and services that reflect the diversity of our community.
  2. Collection Development – Providing library materials that serve as mirrors for our community’s experiences as well as windows into the experiences of others.
  3. Staff Development – Providing ongoing and intentional training opportunities on DEI topics for all staff.
  4. Community Outreach – Building relationships and partnerships with marginalized groups in our community.
  5. Policies and Procedures – Reviewing library policies and procedures to ensure they are equitably serving staff and patrons of all backgrounds.
