Memory Care Collection
The Memory Care Collection at the Delaware County District Library is made up of resources for individuals experiencing memory loss, their caregivers and family members, and assisted living activity directors to learn more about Alzheimer’s and dementia and to stimulate the mind from the onset of symptoms through end-of-life care.
Helpful tools like conversation cards, reminisce cards, dexterity and painting activities, and Table Topics – questions to start great conversation – will provide joy and connection to people with dementia and their caregivers. Books in the collection offer action steps to create a plan of care, as well as scientific explanation in layman’s terms of what is happening to the individual’s mind.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association’s “2021 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures” report, an estimated 6.2 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia. That means that within the United States population, more than 1 in 9 people (11.3%) age 65 and older have Alzheimer’s dementia. Within Ohio, that reflects about 220,000 people.
